How to Make Shorts Inside ChatGPT

The HypeNest app is coming to ChatGPT: how it turns a video link into vertical Shorts in the chat, with the usage charge confirmed first.

If you already plan content in ChatGPT, switching to another tab just to start a clipping job breaks the flow. The HypeNest app, coming soon to ChatGPT, lets you paste a video link into the conversation, ask for Shorts and get the finished clips back in the same chat.

This guide covers what the app does, how a job runs, how to phrase requests, and which parts of the job still belong in the HypeNest editor. The app is not in the ChatGPT app directory yet; until it is, start the same projects in the HypeNest app.

Quick answer

The HypeNest app is coming to ChatGPT and is not in its app directory yet. Once it is, you sign in with your HypeNest account, paste a public video link and ask for clips. ChatGPT shows how much of your monthly usage the job will take and starts it only after you agree; a free first try still shows the confirmation, marked as free. Processing takes several minutes; ask for the status later, then ask to see the clips. They appear as preview players with scores and a link to open the project in HypeNest.

The ChatGPT integration page shows the app's status. Editing, caption styling and publishing still happen in the HypeNest app.

What the HypeNest app does in ChatGPT

The app gives ChatGPT five actions on your HypeNest account. Everything else in the conversation is ChatGPT itself, so you can mix clip requests with planning, scripting or caption ideas in one thread.

ItemDetails
Create clips from a linkPaste a public link from YouTube, TikTok, X, Dropbox or LinkedIn. You can choose the clip type and how hard the AI searches, or keep the defaults.
Confirm the charge firstBefore anything starts, ChatGPT tells you what share of your monthly usage the job takes. Nothing runs until you say yes; a free first try still shows the confirmation, marked as free.
Check progressAsk how the project is going and get its status and progress. Processing runs in HypeNest, so you can close the chat and come back.
Watch the clips in the chatFinished clips show up as preview players with their titles, lengths and scores, plus a link that opens the project in HypeNest.
Projects and usageList your recent projects or ask how much of this month's usage is left and which plan you are on.

How a job runs, step by step

1.

Add HypeNest once it is listed

The app is coming to ChatGPT and is not in its app directory yet. The integration page shows when it is available.
2.

Sign in with your HypeNest account

The first time you ask for something, ChatGPT asks you to sign in to HypeNest. The clips land in that account, next to the projects you started in the app.
3.

Paste a link and ask for Shorts

"Make Shorts from this video: <link>" is enough. Add the clip type or effort if you want something other than the defaults.
4.

Agree to the charge

ChatGPT replies with the share of your monthly usage the job will take. Say yes and it starts; say no and nothing is charged. A free first try still shows the confirmation, marked as free.
5.

Come back in a few minutes

Ask "is it done?" after a few minutes rather than every few seconds. When it is finished, ask to see the clips.

Options you can ask for

You don't need to know the option names. Describe what you want and ChatGPT maps it to these settings:

  • Continuous clips (the default): each Short is one continuous part of the video. Best for answers, stories and explanations that already work in one take.
  • Montage: each Short joins 2 to 8 moments from across the video into one story. Useful for long talks where the best points are spread out. More on this in Montage vs continuous clips.
  • Effort: standard by default. Higher effort searches the video more thoroughly and takes longer; high needs Lite or higher, max needs Pro.
  • Source: a public link. To work from a file on your computer, upload it in the HypeNest app instead.

Requests that work well

  • "Make Shorts from this podcast episode: <link>" starts a job with the default settings.
  • "Make montage Shorts from this webinar, maximum effort: <link>" sets both options in one sentence.
  • "How is my last project going?" checks the status without you looking up a project id.
  • "Show me the clips from that project" opens the preview players in the chat.
  • "How much usage do I have left this month?" before a big batch tells you whether it fits.
  • "Which of these clips would work best as a hook for a launch post?" uses ChatGPT's own judgment on the titles and scores it just received.

What stays in the HypeNest app

The ChatGPT app is for starting jobs and looking at results. The work that needs a preview and a human decision happens in HypeNest:

  • Trimming, framing and caption changes in the Clip Editor, including edits by chat with the built-in agent.
  • Caption styles, titles, descriptions and thumbnails.
  • Publishing to YouTube or TikTok, which always goes through your review first.
  • Starting a job from a file upload, or with the full set of upload settings.

Good to know

A job takes several minutes, sometimes longer for long videos. ChatGPT can't make it faster by checking more often, so it's better to start the job, keep working in the same chat and ask for the status later.

If ChatGPT sends the same start twice, for example after a network hiccup, HypeNest recognizes the confirmation and doesn't charge or start the video again. If you're unsure whether a job started, ask ChatGPT to list your projects.

Every project started from ChatGPT is a normal HypeNest project. Open it from the link in the chat to edit the clips, pick titles and publish.

FAQ

Can I make YouTube Shorts directly in ChatGPT?

Soon. The HypeNest app is coming to ChatGPT but is not in its app directory yet. Once it is, paste a public video link, confirm the usage charge and HypeNest makes vertical clips. You watch them in the chat and open them in HypeNest to edit and publish.

Which links can I use?

Public links from YouTube, TikTok, X, Dropbox and LinkedIn. For a file on your computer, upload it in the HypeNest app.

Does ChatGPT charge my HypeNest usage without asking?

No. ChatGPT first tells you what share of your monthly usage the job takes and starts it only after you agree. A free first try still shows the confirmation, marked as free.

Can ChatGPT publish the clips for me?

No. The app starts jobs and shows results. Publishing to YouTube or TikTok happens in HypeNest after you review each clip.

How long does it take?

Several minutes for a typical video. Ask for the status later instead of waiting in the chat.

Start clips from the chat you already use

The HypeNest app is coming to ChatGPT. Until then, paste the same link into HypeNest, then edit and publish the results there.
